A little help with UUTA.
Free days, your records, Shield, and the everyday details.
The App Store has UUTA 1.1 today; 2.0 comes as a free update on 3 November.
Your records stay yours.
UUTA has no account. Support cannot look up your moments or bring them back, but can explain how the app works. For a question, write to [email protected].

Free days and purchases
How much does UUTA cost?
Everything is free for 21 days from when I start them on the last page of first launch. Nothing is charged when they end. After that, one payment, once: $14.99 in the United States; the App Store shows the price for my region before I pay. No subscription, no ads. The purchase covers iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch on the same Apple Account.
Link to this answerIs Shield free?
Yes. Shield stays free after the free days, with or without the purchase.
Link to this answerWhat still works after the free days if I don’t pay?
Shield keeps working. The widgets keep showing which days had a moment. Everything I logged and wrote stays mine to read, to save as a copy or as My report, and to erase. New moments, writing a line, the pause and Patterns need the purchase. The purchase screen opens only when I ask for something that needs it, or from Settings.
Link to this answerI bought UUTA before 2.0. Do I pay again?
No. If my first download of UUTA was a 1.x version, everything stays unlocked: no free-days countdown and no purchase. UUTA reads this from the App Store’s record of that download, on the same Apple Account. What I kept in 1.x stays too: entries with words come across as lines on their own dates, and every earlier goal and entry, as it was, is under Settings › Earlier UUTA records, where it can be exported. Widgets from 1.x don’t carry over; they can be added again from the Home Screen.
Link to this answerHow do I restore my purchase?
Open the purchase screen (Settings, the purchase row) and tap Restore a purchase. The device has to be signed in to the Apple Account that bought it, and needs a connection. If it says “No earlier purchase was found for this Apple Account”, check the Apple Account in the device’s Settings and try again.
Link to this answerDoes deleting and installing again start the free days over?
Reinstalling does not reset a start date UUTA can retrieve. UUTA checks this device’s Keychain and the free-days start recorded with the App Store; where both are available, the earlier date applies. A start kept only on this device does not itself sync to another device. Erase everything does not restart the free days.
Link to this answerHow do refunds work?
Apple handles App Store purchases and decides refund requests. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com and sign in with the Apple Account that paid.
Link to this answerWhat if I cancel the free App Store request?
The 21 days still begin on this device when I start them at the end of setup, even if Apple’s free-item request is cancelled or unavailable. Recording that start with Apple later does not restart the days. Nothing is automatically charged when they end.
Link to this answerData and iCloud
Do I need an account?
No. UUTA has no sign-in and no server of its own. The people who make UUTA cannot see, look up or bring back anything I note.
Link to this answerWhere are my moments kept?
On my iPhone or iPad. If I turn on Keep in my iCloud (on the privacy page of first launch, or later under Settings › My data), they are also kept in my own private iCloud and appear on my other devices with the same Apple Account. There, the lines I write are an encrypted field; the rest has iCloud’s standard protection. A change to the switch applies the next time UUTA opens.
Link to this answerWhat happens to my data if I delete the app?
With iCloud off: the moments and lines on the device are deleted with the app. To keep them, first use Settings › My data › Save a copy, and keep the file somewhere else; “Bring back from a file” reads it into UUTA again. With iCloud on: what has already synced stays in my iCloud and comes back when UUTA is installed again on the same Apple Account (first launch looks in iCloud for a few seconds). To remove it from iCloud too, use Erase everything before deleting the app and let iCloud finish, or remove it in the device’s Settings › [my name] › iCloud › Storage › UUTA. Either way, the free days and the purchase stay with my Apple Account and Keychain, and iPhone or iPad backups made earlier may still hold a copy.
Link to this answerHow do I erase everything?
Open Settings › My data › Erase everything and read the confirmation. When the operation completes, current moments and lines, local app copies, the Earlier UUTA records archive and resettable settings are removed. Shield switches off and UUTA returns to first launch. To keep a file elsewhere, choose the option to save a copy before erasing: erasing follows when the share sheet reports that the file was saved or sent. Cancelling that share does not proceed with the erase. iCloud removal needs a connection and time to sync; if iCloud was used before but is now off, removal waits until it is turned on in UUTA again. My data shows when cloud removal is waiting. Free-days and purchase records remain. Original 1.x stores, older system backups and files saved elsewhere are separate. If an error appears, some earlier steps may already have completed; it does not mean every change was undone.
Link to this answerHow do I move to a new iPhone or iPad?
With Keep in my iCloud on: install UUTA on the new device, signed in to the same Apple Account; moments can take a little while to arrive. Without iCloud: Settings › My data › Save a copy on the old device, then “Bring back from a file” on the new one. In both cases the purchase comes back by itself on the same Apple Account; if the purchase row still shows, tap Restore a purchase there. Settings and the apps chosen for Shield belong to each device and are chosen again.
Link to this answerWhy is iCloud waiting?
Settings › My data shows the current iCloud status. Check the Apple Account signed in on this device, the connection and available iCloud storage. Records already on the device remain readable while sync waits. A change to Keep in my iCloud applies the next time UUTA opens. Turning it off leaves records already in iCloud there until they are removed.
Link to this answerHow do I save a copy and bring it back?
Settings › My data › Save a copy creates a .uutabackup file and opens the share sheet. Keep it somewhere outside the app. On the same or another device, Bring back from a file reads that file into UUTA. It includes current records and selected preferences, not every setting or purchase record. A file can update matching records as well as add records. Exported copies are not encrypted by UUTA or protected by its app lock; anyone with the file can read its contents.
Link to this answerWhat is the difference between My report and Save a copy?
My report, on Patterns, makes readable text or a PDF for 14, 30, 90 days, or everything. It includes counts and moments with their details and lines. It stays available after the free days. To bring records back into UUTA, use the .uutabackup file from Save a copy instead. Earlier UUTA records has its own separate export.
Link to this answerCan I bring back a deleted moment?
Settings › My data › Recently deleted keeps deleted moments for 30 days unless removed sooner. Choose a moment there to restore it. After 30 days, removal happens when the app’s removal completes; with iCloud on, that can wait for sync. Earlier local daily copies may still contain the moment until removal or replacement completes.

What does Shield need?
Screen Time access for UUTA, which iOS asks for when I turn Shield on. The apps are chosen in Apple’s own list; UUTA never learns which, only how many. Without that access, everything else in UUTA works as usual.
Link to this answerHow do I turn Shield off?
On the Shield tab, turn a switch off. It turns off at once unless the optional 10-minute wait is on. With that wait, the change takes effect after ten minutes while UUTA is open, or the next time it opens; Keep Shield on cancels it. The wait is off by default. Shield also goes when Screen Time access for UUTA is turned off in the device’s Settings, or when UUTA is deleted.
Link to this answerDoes UUTA have a separate Screen Time passcode?
No. UUTA does not set, store or read a Screen Time passcode, and cannot tell whether one is set. Screen Time access is managed in the device’s Settings. UUTA’s optional 10-minute wait is an app setting; it does not prevent access from being revoked in system Settings.
Link to this answerWhy did a chosen app still open?
Usually one of these: “Open for 15 min” was tapped for it (the pause screen comes back when the 15 minutes are over); “Pause before opening” is off; Screen Time access for UUTA was turned off in Settings; the app is not under “Apps I chose”; or it is under “Never pause these”.
Link to this answerThe pause screen came up during a call.
A group such as Social can also hold apps for messages and calls. To keep an app clear of the pause screen: Shield tab › Never pause these, and choose it in Apple’s list.
Link to this answerWhat does Limit adult websites cover?
It turns on Apple’s built-in filter for websites. It does not inspect content inside an app’s own feed, and it does not guarantee that every website is filtered. The choice stays on this device. UUTA does not receive a list of websites I visit.
Link to this answerWhy did the notice after 15 minutes not appear?
The notice comes at most once a day and needs notifications allowed for UUTA in the device’s Settings. It counts time in the chosen apps since the day began or since its switch was turned on. It is separate from the evening check-in.
Link to this answerWhat are Stricter hours?
During the hours I choose, the pause screen offers Not now alone, without Open for 15 min. Stricter hours is optional and off by default. With the 10-minute wait on, changes that make access less restricted can wait too; the Shield tab shows the pending change.
Link to this answerIs a newly installed app included in Shield?
If I chose a whole group in Apple’s list, apps in that group added later are included too. If I chose individual apps, a new app is not automatically added. Apps I chose on the Shield tab opens the selection again; Never pause these lists exceptions.
Link to this answerUsing UUTA
How does the Face ID lock work?
UUTA locks with Face ID (or Touch ID, or the device passcode) each time I leave the app, and the app switcher shows a cover instead of the screen. The lock is on from the start; Settings › Lock with Face ID turns it off, after one more check. UUTA has no passcode of its own and never sees Face ID data or the device passcode. The lock needs a passcode set on the device.
Link to this answerWhich devices and languages?
iPhone and iPad with iOS 27 or later, and Apple Watch with watchOS 27. In 32 languages.
Link to this answerWho is UUTA for?
UUTA is for adults, 18 and over: a tool for personal observation, with no advice or promised result. Where required, Apple’s age-range service checks eligibility. UUTA is not an emergency service. In an emergency, call the local emergency number. Settings › Someone to talk to lists help lines run by other organisations.
Link to this answerHow do I report a problem or ask a question?
Email [email protected]. It helps to include the version shown in Settings › About, the device and iOS version, and what happened. Please leave out anything I wrote in the app; support never needs it.
Link to this answerCan I change the evening check-in?
Open Settings › Evening check-in. When it is on, choose the time beside the switch; it starts at 9:00 pm. It needs notifications allowed for UUTA in the device’s Settings. Turning it off cancels that check-in.
Link to this answerHow do I add a widget?
Hold the Home Screen, then choose Edit › Add Widget › UUTA. UUTA also has Lock Screen widgets. They show the week’s dots and a count of days, without the name of my focus or my lines. If only the mark appears, open UUTA once. Widgets from 1.x can be added again after updating.
Link to this answerHow do I note a moment?
On Today, tap I noticed it. A three-minute pause is optional. It passed and I went with it carry the same weight; context and a line are optional too. Each day with a moment has the same filled dot, whatever the outcome. A Control Center control, actions in Shortcuts and Siri, and Apple Watch (a double tap on I noticed it) offer other ways to note a moment. A moment noted on the watch reaches the iPhone, later if the iPhone is away.

UUTA 1.x and the update to 2.0
- What it is: the paid notebook for goals and the impulse log, $9.99 once. It is in the App Store until 3 November 2026.
- On 3 November 2026: it updates to 2.0 at no cost. If my first download was 1.x, everything stays unlocked: no free-days countdown and no purchase.
- My 1.x entries: 2.0 shows them under Settings › Earlier UUTA records, read-only, and can save a copy from there.
- 1.x in iCloud: it stays in the 1.x container. 2.0 reads it and never changes it.
- Before updating: Use the export option in 1.x Settings to keep a separate copy of earlier records.
